How Do the Neurons Function ?
What is a neuron ?
Neuron refers to a nerve cell . It is the basic building block of our nervous system. It consists of cell body, dendrite, axon, nerve ending and nucleus.
What does it do?
It transmits messages in form of chemical or electrical messages to our brain. It connects various body parts to our brain to help transmit messages.
How are neurons arranged in our body?
The nerve ending of one neuron is connected to another neuron's dendrites. But, there exits a microscopic gap between two neurons over which the electrical impulse transmits.
What is the microscopic gap called?
What is the function of synapse?
The synapse provides a juncture where the electrical impulses are transmitted.
But the main question remains how do they function.
So let"s peep into it.
When a neuron receives an electric impulse at its dendrites, the impulse travels from dendrites to nerve endings. At the nerve endings the impulse is released into the synapse. Then it is identified by the dendrites of another neuron. Once the impulse is identified and then the impulse travels through the same process as discussed above.
Then.at last it reaches the brain or spinal chord.
